Did you know “panini” is the Italian word for sandwiches? That’s where the word comes from, but the significance of the name has become something even more special over the years. Generally, a panini is a sandwich that’s pressed and grilled. A lot of people make their paninis with a special panini maker, which simultaneously presses and grills the sandwich, but you can make them without any special equipment, too. Simply place a panini in a skillet over medium heat and press it down; you can use the lid to your skillet or even a plate. No matter how you make them, though, they are going to be delicious. As long as it’s pressed and grilled, it’s a panini.
That’s really where the rules about paninis end. One of the great things about paninis is there aren’t really any rules about what has to go into them, just how they are made. That’s why our chefs spent a lot of time experimenting with panini ingredients until we came up with what we think is the perfect panini menu. We wanted to make sure there was something on our menu for everyone, and we think we nailed it!
What’s On Our Panini Menu?
BBQ Chicken Panini
Our tangy barbeque sauce is really the star of the show here. We grill the chicken so it’s still juicy, then layer on the onions, avocado, and mozzarella cheese. This panini is a thing of beauty.
Grilled Veggie Panini
Want to skip the meat but not the flavor? Then this panini delivers. It’s filled with grilled veggies like zucchini, Brussel sprouts, onions and red peppers. We make it even more special by adding some melted swiss cheese.
We couldn’t neglect to give a nod towards our famous gyros! If you love our traditional gyros, this panini is sure to please, too. We start with a creamy homemade spread, then top it with our beef and lamb gyro. Then we pile on the cheese, onion, tomato and bell peppers. You can’t beat it!
If you love shrimp, you’ll love this panini. We pile the shrimp on, then add special ingredients like avocado and a zesty chipotle ranch sauce. This one has a nice spice to it that’s just right and mixes with the shrimp to elevate the flavor.
Chicken Parmesan Panini
Okay, we know we shouldn’t have favorites, but if you are going to try any of the paninis on our menu, this is the one we’d start with. It’s absolutely incredible. We take our marinated chicken breast and pile it with mozzarella, spinach, and parmesan cheese. Once those ingredients are toasted, it’s perfection on a plate.
We Have the Sides Covered, Too
When you order a panini either in our restaurant or for late night food delivery, you’ll get your choice of a fresh house salad or french fries on the salad. For a little bit extra, you can substitute sweet potato fries, homemade chips, or crispy onion rings instead. Trust us, you aren’t going to end your meal and still feel hungry.
What’s So Special About a Panini?
Paninis have been around for a long, long time. While the name (and possibly the idea) came from Italy, there have been versions made around the world for hundreds of years. America’s own Thomas Edison invented a panini press in the first part of the 20th century, and it was very popular. It’s no wonder! Even back then, people could appreciate how the special technique of pressing and grilling a sandwich elevated the experience of the humble sandwich. There is something really nice about biting into a warm sandwich and getting all of the delicious flavors at once. And a little melted cheese never hurt anything, either.
